Five-Passenger Clarity Fuel Cell Hybrid sedan, which oozes tech for gas efficiency, is slated to launch in California by the end of 2016.

Honda’s new Clarity Fuel Cell Hybrid sedan will hit the market this year. It’s a perfect example of how Honda is leading the automotive industry in taking advantage of technological innovation. Its fuel cell stack is 33 percent more compact that its predecessor, and also saw a 60 percent increase in power density. The stack is comparable to a V-6 engine, but will feature a driving range estimated to exceed 300 miles and an anticipated refueling time of around three to five minutes.

The Clarity Fuel Cell is the staple of Honda’s up-and-coming variety of environmentally-friends cars. These cars include a reengineered 2017 Accord Hybrid, which should be available this spring. Also on the docket is a new Honda Plug-In Hybrid car. Details on this vehicle are fuzzy, but it should launch by 2018.

"The new Clarity Fuel Cell and Accord Hybrid arriving this year, along with the new plug-in hybrid coming by 2018, are critical steps toward a new generation of Honda advanced environmental vehicles and a true volume pillar for Honda and our product portfolio in the U.S.," said John Mendel, executive vice president, Automobile Division, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "The Clarity Fuel Cell is a potential game changer because it offers an uncompromising, zero emissions customer experience, with performance, utility, range and refueling time on par with today's gasoline-powered cars.”

Besides it’s industry-standard gas efficiency, the Clarity Fuel Cell comes with tons of features. These include a low, wide aerodynamic body with clean character lines. Additional features include the Honda Sensing™ suite of safety and driver assertive technologies, Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, LED exterior lighting and 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels.

Honda recently announced its pricing and sales plan at the 2016 Washington, D.C. Auto Show. The new 5-passenger, hydrogen-powered Clarity Fuel Cell sedan will begin retail leasing to customers in a few California markets before the end of the year, and is expected to be priced at about $60,000, but with an available lease price of under $500.
